One Night Stand: Art Auction

Nobody does art like Joshua Levi Galleries.

On turning up last Thursday for the art auction, two artists were out the front, exhibiting their skills with cans of spray paint on a large canvas as people strode around with alcohol, eyeing off art pieces or fellow bidders. Quite a few of the artists were there, chatting away with the crowd and to each other. A live band left a taste of sass in the air with jazzy tunes serenading the crowd.

Those same tunes stopped once the bidding began.

A plethora of Brisbane's most delectable indie artwork went up for auction, with artists and art enthusiasts looking on. Over 25 pieces were held up to the light and examined by keen eyes putting a price on aesthetic.

I personally grabbed a piece by Mags (after stealing Lucas' bidding card and deciding to make a price on a piece or three) and met him afterwards for a quick word. I also bumped into the amazingly talented Georg, whose opening had been not a fortnight previously, then quickly introduced myself to Keiron McMaster who has his opening on the 30th. These three did not cease to amaze, all laid back and smiling and happy to chat about their work, inspirations and life in general.

I think the only problem with Joshua Levi Galleries is that every time I go, I manage to get a *little* tipsy and my co-conspirators have to put up with me. It's impossible not to have a wonderful time when going to an event there. Kudos to all the artists and to Joshua Levi himself!

The PORTFOLIO team at Joshua Levi Galleries. Left to Right: Rachell, Lucas and Zoie

(And the last laugh was on me, as Lucas informed me he thinks he accidentally put down his old information on his card, so I have to write a quick email to Joshua Levi to double check so I can get my painting!)

NOW THATS BALENCIAGA THIN.

EVERYBODY... now everybody is commenting and ranting on about Mirander Kerr and her body. It seems that Ms.Kerr has taken on some thinspiration from the high end fashion models.

Well....     I dont want to alienate any of our fan base here.. but i think she looks better!

Lagerfeld said fashion is an illusion and is about fantasy... i completly agree! FAT PEOPLE DO NOT BELONG ON THE RUNWAY. Victoria Secret is not high end!      If you want to work for Balenciaga, Chanel, Sonia Rykell or Gucci, your going to have to be a double zero.

There are reasons why you don't see Adrianna Lima working for Burberry or other high end clothing lines.

If people don't like it... They should stop buying Vogue and bitching about it, go back to shopping at Target and as wise man Lagerfeld said "sit in front of the television with thier bag of chips saying that models are ugly"

Fashion is cut throat, if you want to work in high end, and walk down runways of Paris, London, Milan and New York. Diet or fuck off. Basically. Or just stick to catalouge.

Which speaking of, I am in love with model Tanya Dziahileva.
<3 <3 <3 <3

She has walked in shows for Chanel, Dior, Hermès, Alexander McQueen, Jean Paul Gaultier, Missoni, Versace, Prada, Donna Karan, and Calvin Klein and she's only 17!

Oh.BTW.

GoMA. Easton Pearson Exhibition!

A survey exhibition of the Brisbane-based, internationally acclaimed fashion house Easton Pearson, which this year celebrates its twentieth anniversary, will open at the Gallery of Modern Art. The exhibition will feature designs drawn from Easton Pearson’s own archive, and will explore the designers’ eclectic sources of inspiration and the edgy glamour, exquisitely embellished fabrics and vibrant colours that have made them one of Australia’s most successful design teams.

The exhibition catalogue explores Easton Pearson’s collaborations with contemporary artists and artisans, and acknowledges the designers’ interest in a range of historical precursors in art history, dress history and other cultural forms. Featuring essays by internationally renowned fashion writer Peter McNeil; fashion commentator, stylist, writer and curator Jane de Teliga; and Gallery curators Miranda Wallace and Francis Parker.

The exhibition runs until the 8th of November, and is held in the Foyer Cabinet and Gallery 1.0

Brisbane multi cultural festivities!!!

Hey my portfolio buddies!!

I just got back from the brissie multi cultural festival..... I'm soooo sorry that I didn't know about it sooner or I would have invited all of you beautiful people along!
It was a blast! If you're into people watching, it was the place to be. I've never seen so many different types of people in my life!!!! No jokes.

There was some pretty cool food and beverages of sorts. I tried some fijian drink called a lassi or something that looked like bright yello paint!!! Pretty trippy really!

And with all of this people watching I ran into all kinds of fashionable people!! I HAD to have a happy snap moment with them!

I loved the textures on this guy and his crazy cool jazz shoes! Not to mention his super dooper rucksack!

This chick was amazing! She was like a cooler grunge hippie from the 80s. Loved the docs and her cool jacket and clashing colours. Love love love.

Then there was sam....

Not a very good pic of her as she's STUNNING! But she looked like the epitomy of fashion in her all black ensemble with a fantastic use of textures.... You go girl!!
I managed to ask her a few Q's...

Z: Where did you get your:

Jacket? It was a present.

Tights? A cool boutique in west end.

Dress: it's an old vintage find off the net.

Bag: from a garage sale

And the bling? Cuff was from west end, one of the rings was my mums old engagement ring, one of the other rings was from a drunk random guy who proposed to me at a party and the one on my left hand I stole from friend who moved to Jamaica. It's a great reminder of her!!

So sorry I couldn't see you all there! Promise I'll see you next year though, I'll be the crazy one sipping on the bright yellow paint drink!

Zoie. Xx
